Day 1 summery 01,07.19

So dinner went well using up gammon steaks & fish from the freezer then using up veg from the weekend. Pudding was moose mixes which were from cupboard to use up.

So day 1 of plastic free was going so well, I spent the time in the garden preparing a veg patch and thought this patch could benefit from some manure!!! Passing the garden centre three bags of manure went in the car without thinking then!!! BOOM OMG THE BAGS ARE PLASTIC epic fail day one.

So I figure it’s harder to do this challenge than I thought but also I’m not letting that kind of thing trick me again either.

So I ran out of dish washer tablets, decided to make my own following a you tube video, made 10 then ran out of ingredients so I visited a supermarket.  I found ingredients but all ingredients are in plastic packaging so I was unable to buy them. Tomorrow I will look to see if I can upcycle someone else’s ingredients or buy without plastic packaging what I need.

Bring on day two
Day 1 1st July lunch

So this morning I ran out of pet food. Hunt for plastic free food was on, this was not too difficult and The money worked out well.

So pack of 6 cat food in plastic wrapping was 14p more dearer than the 6 individual tins. I have changed to tins instead of pouches.

Dog food worked out 27p cheaper in the big tins than the wrapped tins when the weight of the food was calculated. BONUS

HOWEVER

cordial for my kids in a glass bottle worked out £1.50 more for less quantity than in the plastic bottle.
WHY?

My lunch was all homemade apart from the bread which I used up from the weekend. Bread was in a plastic bag but I can recycle this bag. When I need to buy bread I will go to Lidl with my own loot bag to put their fresh bread in. All veg from farm shop that we used the weekend and I’m using up for my lunch the leftovers. Yum yum

I think this week might be the easiest week of my plastic free July as I’m using up what I already have in my cupboards. When all the items run out I will need to find plastic free items this is going to be hard.

I have done my dinner menu for the week to use up what I have so there should be no need for me to shop this week.

My milk issue is not good either as the alternative also has plastic on the carton.

Feeling good about the challenge at the moment.
